Getting back in shape

Sheldon and I went shopping the other day for new running shoes. Last year we had a gym membership to a small gym and unfortunately they went out of business. We had signed up for a year membership and since we only had a membership for 4 months, they gave us a refund on our money. We have been saving that money to buy new shoes for when Tucker was born to help us get back in shape. I was able to get 2 new pairs and they are definitely the nicest running shoes I have ever owned. They are so comfortable. We went to this great running store in Orem that looks at your old pair of running shoes to see how you run and then gives you shoes for your specific type of foot and running style. They also let you take the shoes out for a run to test them out. The plan is for Sheldon and me to run a half marathon sometime next spring. Sheldon has run a marathon before, but I have never run anywhere near that far. So I am a little bit nervous, but I am sure with the right training I will be able to do it.

All dressed up

We got Tucker all dressed up for church on Sunday and he looked so cute in his little vest and black pants. Church is definitely a lot harder to pay attention to when you are trying to take care of a little baby and I only listened to about one of the talks. Sheldon listened to the other talk though so if we share what we learned then it is like we listened through the whole meeting. Having one child has definitely changed my perspective a little on how big a family I want to have. Sheldon and I used to talk about having a good size family, around 5 kids, now I think that number has decreased a little. We look at families with 4 kids and realize how much work they are to take care of, especially if you have them close together. We will probably have at least one more kid... probably ;)

Trip to the Fair

Last Saturday Sheldon and I went with his family to the Utah State Fair. It is a tradition in their family to go every year. I was worried Tucker would be fussy but we just kept him in his sling and he was pretty content the whole time. I pumped so I could feed him with less hassle and he did pretty good at taking a bottle. The milk comes out a little fast for him, since he is used to breastfeeding and he usually ends up with milk running down his chin. In the picture below it looks like he is wearing a bonnet, but it is actually just his sling we carry him in. I didn't take too many pictures of things at the fair because there usually isn't a ton of things to see. There's lots of big pigs, cows, and sheep, and many weird things that you can buy. I was tempted to try a deep fried snickers or twinkie, but I decided I did not want to cut 5 years off my life.

Tucker mainly just squinted his eyes the whole time. He did not like the bright sun.

Our big headed little boy

Tucker went to his two week doctor's appointment on Wednesday and they said he is a healthy and very happy boy (except when he is hungry). He weighed 8 pounds exactly and was 20.25 inches long, he has already grown a quarter of an inch. It made me feel better to know that he has grown quite a bit, because he is eating a ton and I am glad it is doing something. For height and weight he is in about the 25th percentile, and his head is the 60th percentile. He is a little kid with a big head, but I'm sure he will grow into it. It has been fun to watch how much he is changing already. His legs are starting to chunk up and he is really starting to move his head around a lot. Tucker loves tummy time everyday and I can't wait until he really starts smiling at us. He is smiling every now and then, but it's not really at you. Sometimes it seems like he even laughs, but I'm not sure it is a laugh. It makes me wonder what is going on in his head.

First Bath

We gave Tucker his first bath on Sunday and it wasn't as bad as I though it was going to be. He hated being given a sponge bath, but I think he really liked sitting in the warm water. The only problem came up when he peed in the water, very typical of Tucker. I have learned to keep a rag over him when I am changing his diaper or else he will pee on me every time. Tucker is so tricky, he always has a little smirk on his face after he does something like that. Here is a cute picture of him after his bath, I just loved the look on his face.

My Labor Story

The night of Friday the 15th, Sheldon and I came home from eating a great dinner with my family. We ate at the Spaghetti Factory and I had Vegetariano Lasagna, but unfortunately I don't think I will be eating that dish again as that night it all came back up. I just thought I had the flu since I couldn't keep anything down all night and the next morning. I was having contractions but they weren't very regular and they weren't what I imagined what contractions would be like. Saturday Sheldon and I just hung out and watched movies trying to distract me from contractions. My contractions started coming about 3-5 minutes apart at 5 or 6 pm and Sheldon tried to convince me to go to the hospital but for some reason I still didn't think I was in labor and wouldn't go. Finally when my contractions were 2 minutes apart at about 6:30 pm Sheldon forced me to go to the hospital. I was so afraid I was going to be only be dilated to a 2, but they checked me and I was dilated to an 8! Shortly after that the baby's heart rate started to dip so they broke my water and I started pushing. It was so intense and everyone was screaming at me to push to get him out faster, and luckily he did come out in about 15 minutes and they started working on him because he wasn't breathing very well. It all happened so fast and I barely even got to hold Tucker, that I didn't even really feel like he was my child at first (don't worry though, now I definitely feel like he's mine). Here is a picture right after he was born hooked up to oxygen and other stuff I don't know what because Sheldon was there and I
wasn't.

Little Tucker had what's called a pnuemothorax, basically an air bubble outside of his lungs that was making it hard for him to breathe. So they poked him with a needle and sucked the air out. That caused him to have a rough start, but after a few days he was breathing normally and I was able to feed him just fine. Here are a few pictures at the hospital:

We are such proud parents!

Poor little guy all hooked up to monitors and oxygen.Tucker came home from the hospital on Tuesday and has been doing great ever since. We took him to his first doctor's appointment on Friday and he had gained 5 ounces, so he is definitely not having any problems eating! He now weighs 7 pounds 2 ounces and I'm sure he is steadily gaining with the amount he eats! Here is Tucker on his car ride home from the hospital, he was so good and cry once.
Here is Tucker one week old! He is so cute and we just can't get enough of him!

Almost in Labor. . .

Last Friday to celebrate Sheldon's graduation we went miniature golfing. It was very fun and I think I definitely enjoyed it the most since I won by 3 points, ahh the sweet taste of victory. Here are some pictures from our competitive game of mini golf. This is my Dad concentrating really hard hoping he can beat me, but to no avail. The picture at the bottom is of me at 40 weeks! I was still feeling great and we had fun playing frisbee golf later on. But that night is when the fun really began. . .
